I have stopped all distractions, comfortably termed as multitasking. Focusing on the task and path at hand, I move more efficiently and I would say more productively. Cutting back on all the excesses and the un-important activities saves a lot of time, brings me to my goal faster, helps me develop and evolve more, sharpens my mind and skills, develops focus and overall improves me as a person.

Sunshine

For some people, this would not apply as they already are focused and impervious to these distractions naturally, however, I would say for most of us, we are sucked into the seemingly endless options of distractions. An example of which would be online games, social networking sites and even the mundane reading news. Let’s take reading news as a case in point, it would seem harmless but if after awhile you would realize that an hour has already passed. Another obvious example would be facebook, if you don’t control yourself, you’ll be wasting hours and hours(Don’t think these are the distractions I stopped ^_^).

This would most probably apply to almost everything we do, even the most mundane and simple things. Although It would seem hard to stop at first, and it would feel like you have withdrawal syndrome, which would indicate you are already addicted to it. There would also be times when the distraction tempts you a lot, to the point that it would be unbearable. But stays the course, do not be swayed, have faith, focus and think of something else.

You can use the time saved to do the more important things in life, socialize face-to-face and not online, spend more time with family, learn new things, do your work faster and better and much, much more. This would definitely lead to a much better satisfaction for life and make you much healthier, as stopping all of these will lower down stress levels and give you more time to sleep.

Try it out, it might just brighten your day everyday.

Our organization has recently started to see the value of social networks in all aspects, we have already recognized the importance of having internet presence and I now am already evangelizing the importance of social networks.

Although it is an uphill battle at times but I can see this changing, as more and more of my colleagues get hooked into friendster, linkedin and facebook.. I can see a more social corporate environment.

I built up an internal social network, I incorporated it in our internal website making it more dynamic and social in nature, although starting it was a bit hard, it now is picking up pace and is already a recognized and accepted medium to collaborate and share.

I also have started to bring our organizations branding and recruitment initiatives into facebook, starting with groups and building it up from their.

If given the chance to attend the social networking and e-business conference by Fiera de Manila, Inc. and DigitalFilipino Club on April 23-24, 2009 at the Grand Ballroom of Hotel Intercontinental, Makati, I would surely be able to extend my social network, learn from early and current implementers of social networking and be able to conjure up new ideas how I can bring this into our organization as well as share it with my still growing social network.

I would also like to cascade what I learn here in our locality, with some friends and others who would want to but could not attend. With such prestigious speakers and presenters, it will indeed be a must learning experience of the year.
