Mounting ISO image

Posted on the January 8th, 2010 under Learning,Sharing by angelopanares

I downloaded the MS Project trial and it came in ISO. The installation instruction was standard, burn the ISO image unto an optical disk and run the installation program from there. I used to be a mac user and I had no problems with ISO images, it was a breeze. But now that I am a PC user, I scoured around the web again to check what was the best virtual drive utility for PC. I was looking for a utility that would mount the ISO image, was lightweight, easy to use, did not come with spyware, viruses, trojans, keyloggers, etc., was created by a reputable developer or organization, had good feedback, tried and tested and most of all FREE.

I feel that burning an optical disk too cumbersome, waste time and I could save the environment by not burn an optical disk for single use. Lucky me, after just a couple of clicks and minutes I stumble upon this post  XP: Small, Free Way to Use and Mount Images (ISO files) Without Burning Them from www.tech-recipes.com.

It enlightens everyone to a little known 60kb application that creates virtual drives and mounts ISO images unto that. It is however not supported by Microsoft but it is free.

Please do read the post to learn more.

I’d also like to add that if you still did not know, MS have a couple of very handy and cool add-on utilities called PowerToys. Check it out and download all you want :)
