Starting anew
Moving on from my previous company and being expatriated here to Singapore was a very tense, agitating and exciting experience. I have just most recently settled down and have got into the groove of life here in my new country.
Being with my previous company for such a long time, I have forgotten the feeling of being a new guy on the block. The first days where allocated for introductions and orientations. It was a bit embarrings coz I am really bad at remembering names and I was thrust into a situation wherein I had to remember a hundred or so names not to mention multi-cultural names at that with different spellings, accents and intonations, add their positions and their diffrent teams and divisions; it was overwhelming!
I was then given a lot of documentations which I had to put two and two together. It was a great experience though as I was given enough time to digest it all and I had colleagues nearby which I could ask for clarifications
A new experience to me is working with different time zones, the rest of the team I work with is on the other side of the globe and partners on another. A couple of other teams and individuals are on different parts of the globe as well and so meetings are a challenge, Another new experience was having meetings on telephone. However, after a couple of these experiences, I have come to get accustomed to it all and I believe, a couple more and it will already feel natural.
The future looks great, and I love the work so far. There is a lot to absorb and an enormous amounts of experience to be had in this new environment, a new feeling of being such a small individual on such a large organization settles in but you still get the feeling of recognition and self-fulfillment as your contribution and achievements are highlighted and recognized.
I am looking forward to working with my new colleagues from all over the world.
