Hard Lesson to Learn
One hard lesson to learn in the coporate world is that it is a dog eat dog world and it is a colorful and vibrant as a rainbow. You get to meet all kinds of people, the genuinely good, the seemingly good, the sometimes good, the sarcastics and cynic, the one with an ultirior motive, the one with an agenda, the bad eggs, the egotistic and worse of all….. the incompetents.
As a development process or as I would call it, an ADVENTURE, one’s day to day dealings with all this people will contribute in one way or another, in a good way or bad, to one’s future. Filtering these emotions, behaviors, habits and styles will be very, very, very hard as this will all happen transparently, 90% of the time one will not know that you have already acquired it and most the time is already doing it.
But, as it is a constant struggle, it sometimes just might be entertaining, amusing or pleasant if you allow it to be.
One hard lesson I did learn and will impart on you is to not expect everything to be as it is on the surface, everyone almost always have their own agenda an you will never know how people will react to different situations, specially under pressure and stress. As Harrison Profiles would put it, the flip side, of people from their normal selves occurs under certain circumstances that is un-predictable and will catch most people un-aware and flat-footed, worse is that when the person flips, the person tends to not know.
And so how do we go about this, if you have time, examine, study, research and scrutinize the granularity of your colleagues and superiors, know the boundaries, visible and invisible, and always, always thread lightly.
